Job description

As a Cost/Commercial Estimator you will work on interesting and varied tenders for the Hythe Group of companies. You’ll be able to prepare tender proposals, identify potential hazards and risks, and calculate the cost of labour, materials, equipment, and other expenses associated with projects in the marine sector.

As an experienced Cost/Commercial Estimator you must be able to review detailed customer project plans, blueprints, and specifications to understand the scope of work, research prices, and prepare cost estimates for projects. You’ll have great attention to detail and be happy to negotiate prices and quotes from suppliers and subcontractors.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing tender proposals
  • Analysing customer-detailed schematics/plans, bills of materials and other project documentation in order to estimate costs
  • Researching, sourcing, negotiating and obtaining the best prices and quotes from suppliers and subcontractors
  • analysing data that can affect costs
  • assessing the financial, technical and operational risks of the project
  • Liaising with Technical Designers
  • keeping up to date with the latest regulatory and legislative requirements
  • inputting into decisions over whether to bid for the project
  • working closely with key members of the project team (such as the project manager, production managers, fabrication and manufacturing managers) and liaising with clients and suppliers
  • keeping detailed records and writing reports.

Project Scheduler

Are you passionate about Project Scheduling? Are you looking to develop your skills in a unique role? At Hythe, we may have the perfect opportunity for you. We are currently looking for a Project Scheduler to play a vital part in supporting some of our most exciting projects in the Marine field.

The Project Scheduler will create, update and maintain project schedules, monitor progress, and gain input from all stakeholders. Within this role, you will ensure all scope is captured, represented, controlled, and maintained within project plans. In addition to this, you will work with suppliers and stakeholders to integrate relevant information and will be responsible for providing reports – helping to drive delivery. Working at our Portsmouth site, you will get a hands-on concept of the projects that you will be working on, including seeing some of the Ships you have been supporting.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Creating, updating and maintaining project schedules/plans
  • Gaining input from stakeholders
  • Providing daily reports on progress / slippage and milestone deliverable risks to the Project Manager
  • Providing the Project Manager with resource utilisation impacts/needs assessments
  • Assigning tasks based on the scope and programme
  • Recording and updating systems on change requests/impacts/financial milestones

Salary negotiable, up to £30,000 depending on experience.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Manage the scope of the project(s) to control the agreed objectives for change.
  • Planning and management of, production and assigning resources to achieve delivery.
  • Measure project(s) against KPIs and deliverables.
  • Own the project(s) risk & issue register and take action accordingly.
  • Produce, maintain and develop the project schedule, providing accurate position against plan/baseline, monitor progress and milestone/gateways.
  • Communicate/report project(s) progress and measurables with all stakeholders.
  • Manage variation to scope or objectives and impact on the project(s).
  • Track and manage budgets, costs and financial position of the project(s).
  • Ensure best practice is always achieved, continually improve, challenge and embrace change.
  • Ensure the project is acting within the contract/framework agreed upon.
  • Project governance and assurance.
  • Reduce cost through best practices and innovation.
  • Ensure industry, business and compliance standards are met including health, safety and environment.

Essential skills

  • Extensive knowledge and experience in Project Management techniques including:
    • Resource planning and management
    • Cost capture
    • Analysis and forecasting
    • Project scheduling
    • Monitoring against deliverables/milestones.
  • Experience in managing a team
  • Experience in Stakeholder Management and Customer Engagement
  • Multifunctional understanding of supply chain and commercial practices and understanding of the principles of bid and estimating processes

Fabricators, Platers and Coded Welders Required

Job description

Due to continued growth, we immediately require Fabricators, Platers and Coded Welders for a minimum of two years, to be based at Portsmouth Naval Base.

Working hours: Standard 42.5hr week with overtime available

Rate:

  • Standard Rate @ £28.00 p/h
  • Nights @ £36.00p/h
  • Weekend OT @ £35.30 p/h (Saturday), £37.32 p/h (Sunday)

An additional £3.00 per hour is payable if you live more than 60 miles from our Portsmouth location.

Shift patterns can be discussed when started.

All candidates are to be trade tested and all welders will be asked to prove previous qualifications held to Lloyd’s standard. Successful applicants will be put through Lloyds coding on-site assessment.

As a minimum, BPSS clearance is required.
